Austin/Brooklyn-ite,
Leslie Sisson, is the female vocalist and guitarist in The
Wooden Birds while also moonlighting in Matt
Pond PA. Her past includes time in Western
Keys, Black
Lipstick, The
Killing Fields, Pavo, Tanworth-in-Arden,
and Aero Wave on
guitar, bass, keys, cello, flute, voice, as well as guest performances
for American Analog Set, Windsor
for the Derby, Rhythm
of Black Lines, Mark
Gardener of Ride,
and recent cameos with Dan
Mangan, John
Wesley Coleman, Snowden, and Broken
Social Scene.
In The Wooden Birds, Pitchfork describes
Leslie’s voice as a "subdued Stevie Nicks", The
Onion calls her the "real secret weapon" on stage, Consequence
of Sound says she's the "strongest asset" in the band, Austin
Chronicle features her "striking lead" with "effortless
harmony", Ft
Worth Weekly compares her to a "twang-less" Dolly and Loretta,
while Andrew Kenny sees
her as an indie rock indie rock Emmylou.
Leslie's
debut solo record Harmony produced
by Louie Lino (Nada
Surf/Matt Pond PA) has an
aresnal of special guests, featuring
members of The
Wooden Birds, American Analog
Set, Matt Pond PA, Broken
Social Scene, Nada Surf, Experimental
Aircraft, and more. Touring/live members include Simon
Flory, Jody Sauarez (The
Wooden Birds), Rachel Staggs (Experimental
Aircraft), and Bill Brown (Attack
Formation).
Tug-o-war
twixt hearts and homes means dividing time between her native state
of Texas and New York, which ain't easy, but Leslie does it for
the love of music, without stopping to wonder if it's right or
wrong, because all or nothing is all she knows. A lil bitta country.
A lotta rock-n-roll.
